Inside the RCM Innovators Board: Peer-Driven Solutions for Revenue Cycle Success

If you’ve been engaged in the Connex Healthcare Community for some time, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with our RCM Innovators Board. If not, we wanted to take a moment to spotlight one of the most valuable ways we’re supporting our Revenue Cycle and Finance folks.

The RCM Innovators Board convenes monthly to facilitate practical, peer-driven solutions for complex revenue cycle challenges – from payer denials, to vendor woes, to reimbursement changes and everything in between. Through candid, off-the-record collaboration, members like you are working to co-create industry best practices, share their real-world experiences, and build both community and consensus around the strategies that actually drive measurable performance gains. In the last few months, we’ve tackled:

  • How some EHR-integrated funding-assistance partners can help frontline teams source patient copay support, cover specialty pharmaceutical costs, and turn potential write-offs into collectible balances – sidestepping reimbursement losses from increased patient financial responsibilities.  
  • How rotational shadowing models between senior leaders and RCM staff can deepen cross-functional understanding; strengthen C-suite engagement; improve high-performer visibility to leadership; and achieve faster adoption of more thoroughly vetted workflow optimizations.
  • How back-to-basics performance-improvement plans can help dramatically reduce eligibility denials and write-offs – all by applying Lean Six Sigma strategies to patient access staff onboarding, education, QA, and claim correction processes.
  • How some innovators are accounting for transportation, housing, and food-security barriers in their readmission-risk and charity-care workflows; building partnerships with rideshares, shuttle services, and shelters; and using SDoH insights to enhance eligibility and outreach strategies.

The RCM Innovators Board has several initiatives in the works to help one another succeed, and we’d love to have you be a part of it. Chief among them is a vendor scorecard initiative that seeks to streamline solution vetting and procurement. Like a peer-driven review platform, the scorecard will capture what your peers see as vendors’ strengths and weaknesses, how those vendors handle client relations, vendor performance, vendors’ scopes of services, contract-negotiation experiences, implementation lift, and more. We hope this tool will provide an outlet for more targeted, meaningful, and contextualized vendor recommendations, giving you the no-frills insights you need to make quick, informed decisions.
